Gin is the Thing
& collect
While searching for inspiration for sculpture, a friend was talking about the ideal glass for drinking GIN.
I realised that the potential to challenge the concept of a drinking vessel would be a project worthy of effort.

The glasses were created in a multi-part process
The inner bowls were created as an abstract sheet of fused glass,
This sheet was made into a plate using many layers of clear in a stack then heated in a kiln to create a flowing colour effect.
The result of this is then slumped using a mold and gravity to create the bowl shape.
I then create an outer mold that has the outer surface features I am looking for in the design, the inner bowl is filled with mold material to preserve the shape.
The mold is assembled and the shape between the inner bowl and outer mold surface is filled with glass,
The piece is the fired in the kiln, using a programme that can last for a week, firing the glass to the correct temperature and controlling the cooling to avoid stress in the glass.
At the end of the heating and cooling cycle, I divset the piece, removing the mold both outer and inner, the glass is cleaned and any sharp edges and issues are addressed.

I am inspired by the work of Thaddeus Wolfe, an American Glass artist who is featured on PENCCIL.
