"Dubai seemed like a very special place, but I couldn't see any photos of it. It was always depicted through 3D models, miniatures, drawings. Everything seemed unreal and weird. They had the privilege of being able to create a city from scratch, from nothing. The city had the space and money to enable it to realise the dreams of a society. They have built a city by appropriating Western symbols and taking them to the extreme, to the limit. The result is a thematic and fictionalised city which, in many cases, borders on the absurd."
