Cupboards made out of foam porcelain, a new material that has the capabilities of producing lightweight objects that can be handled in a similar way as china. Just like bread, the foam literally rises in the kiln, expanding itself about 300% its original volume. Extremely light weight because only a third of the material is needed, its open-structure also makes it incredibly strong. Through the production process there is an experimental boundary between controlling the material while also letting it behave freely.

Marjan van Aubel (Netherlands, 1985) is a graduate of the Royal College of Art Design Products (MA) and the Rietveld Academy (BA) DesignLAB. She has collaborated with Solaronix, The American Hardwood Export Council and Joris Laarman, and she he has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Boijmans van Beuningen Museum and the Design Museum in London.
